2025-06-20

Come celebrate  National Pollinator Week and the Longest Day of Play on Friday, 20 June from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m (rain or shine).  We will learn about the different types of pollinators and what we can do to attract and protect them. There will be plenty of family-friendly activities including games,  exhibits, crafts and a Scavenger Hunt. CSWCD will be there with all of their collectable pollinator stickers, the opportunity to design your own biodegradeable pots and plant native seeds for your home. We also have some amazing Save Virginia Butterflies glasses wipes that you won't want to miss. We hope to see you!!

An intro to dragonflies and damselflies

2025-08-16

This talk is part of the Williamsburg Botanical Garden's Learn and Grow series and will be an introduction to the order Odonata – the dragonflies and damselflies. General terminology, anatomy, and their amazing and unique life history / behavior will be reviewed, as well as how to differentiate between the two major suborders – the dragonflies and the damselflies. Each of the 10 Odonata families found in Virginia will be introduced along with natural history and anatomy to help with identifications. The presentation is jam packed with high quality videos, photographs, and diagrams (which are my own or from colleagues who also specialize in the order) that will enhance your experience and further your understanding. If you like dragonflies, then this talk isn’t to be missed!
