Urban Agriculture Technician

 

The Colonial Soil & Water Conservation District is accepting applications for the temporary, grant-funded position of Urban Agriculture Technician. The temporary position is offered for a period of two years with an expected schedule of 20 hours per week. The Technician will have the primary role of managing a small teaching farm and community garden operated by Williamsburg Community Growers (WCG), Colonial SWCD’s close partner in conservation and urban agriculture. The successful candidate will report to the Colonial SWCD’s Urban Conservationist, who serves on the WCG Board, as well as other WCG Board members and volunteers to carry out all aspects of onsite maintenance and development at the teaching farm located in Williamsburg, VA. This position is not eligible for health or retirement benefits and is not exempt from Fair Labor Standards Act.  Compensation is offered at $20,000 per year of temporary employment.

Education or experience in agriculture, natural resources and/or environmental science preferred. Successful candidate must possess excellent communication skills, have first-hand working knowledge of the year-round workflow of a produce farm, be well organized and self-motivated.  Candidate must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. Background check and drug screening may be required.
