About the Course

This course teaches children about the importance of native bees and our other native pollinators. I have a presentation (via PowerPoint) to share with the children, as well as a short activity where they have the opportunity to be a bee.

The game is simple and for up to 20 kids at a time and teaches them that pollinating is really a byproduct of trying to be a successful bee mom that is attempting to provision her brood chambers with enough pollen (pompoms) to sustain her babies when then hatch. The children wear bees on their wrist that have long velcro legs, to which they must attach the different pompoms. Since they want to try to get all the colors of pollen (the best for the baby bees, they are told) they spill pompoms all over the table. In the end the children see how they have accidentally pollinated all of the flowers in their attempt.
